Rhinoplasty is one of the most technically demanding surgeries in facial plastic surgery. Every part of the nose must be carefully balanced with the rest of the nose and the patient’s facial features. Even small changes, such as removing a bump, can affect the entire nasal structure.
Aesthetic nasal surgery (rhinoplasty) refines the shape of the nose, bringing it into balance with the other features of the face. Because the nose is the most prominent facial feature, even a slight alteration can greatly improve appearance. (Some patients elect chin augmentation in conjunction with contouring the nose to better balance their features.) Surgically reshaping the nose alone cannot give you a perfect profile or make you look like someone else.
Before surgery, it is very important that the patient has a clear, realistic understanding of what change is possible as well as the limitations and risks of the procedure. This is why a consultation is crucial for determining whether a patient is a suitable candidate for rhinoplasty or an alternative procedure.
Skin type, ethnic background, and age will be among the factors considered during the consultation by Dr. Zimm Except in cases of severe breathing impairment, young patients usually are not candidates until their noses are fully grown, which is typically around 15 or 16 years of age.
